Properties:Its fruit comprises of bright, dark brown nuts. This fruit made up of partial blossoms of trees are surrounded with a thorny outer skin (chamber). This skin develops from scaled cover. While the thorns are green at the beginning, they turn yellowish brown towards the ripening period. The diameter of the chamber of the wild type can be five-six cm. This can raise up to 10 cm in cultured types. In full ripening period, four valves of the chamber open and leave one-three pieces of fruit inside it outside. In some types, the chamber also falls off together with the fruit inside. Turkey, which is the exporting country, has the third largest chestnut harvesting volume.
